Over 75 years ago, in the midst of the great depression, J.P. and Elma Lapeyrouse founded Lapeyrouse Motors. The business started with a few cars and a few employees, and is now employing over 20 employees on a 7 acre facility located in downtown Jeanerette. J.P. Lapeyrouse, Sr., originally from Montegut, Louisiana(south of Houma), came to Jeanerette with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to assist in the dredging of the Bayou Teche after the flood of 1927. While in Jeanerette, he met Elma Bergeron, and they eventually married and raised 4 children, including current principal owner J.P. Lapeyrouse Jr. J.P.'s background in mechanics complemented Elma's background in accounting. The first new car sold was a 1934 Chrysler Deluxe Sedan, which sold for $970. Lapeyrouse Motors has prospered in good times and persevered through rough times, thanks to their greatly appreciated customers, as well as the many loyal employees the business has had throughout the years. Lapeyrouse Motors celebrated it?s 75^th anniversary in February of 2009. We appreciate the opportunity to continue serving the South Louisiana area. Current owners are John P.
